2007 Olympia Co-Ed Traveling Team

The Hot Apple Turnover (THAT) (aka Wenatchee)

Captain's Report (Beth)

Team Clint, Corey, Ian, Jeremy, Andrew, Ron
Phil, Travis, Austin, Pam, Beth, Mike
Hannah, Erica, Kathy, Shannon

The co-ed team, O, had their first tournament this past weekend in Wenatchee.  Here's a recap for those of you who are curious.  Also, for those interested in learning more about the team, come out to practice on Wednesday's at 6pm at Evergreen, or email me.

O went 4 and 1 on Saturday.  This included a win against the 2006 Wenatchee champions...Good Times.  Several other teams also went 4 and 1 so it came down to a point differential to determine which teams would end up in the A and B pools.  We had a -1 point differential, so we got robbed of the A pool and ended up a 1 seed in the B pool (as did Idaho).

In the B pool semi-finals on Sunday, O was down against Vince nearly all game, but squeaked out a win at universal point, 11-10.  Unfortunately, however, O lost in the B pool finals against Idaho (11-15).  Our first tourney record: 5-2!!

Hannah received the Captain's Award for her spectacular offense in the horizontal stack.  And Clint won the other Captain's Award for his mad D during zone and his sweet footblock.

(Ian's notes:) Here's Jeremy, not waiting for the disc to come to him, but taking it. Ron, #20 watches. It was wicked windy at times. We played a few different zones. When it got real bad, we played a new "no huck" zone to prevent the other team from doing the "Huck and Z" offense, which is required in that weather. They did not score again. We scored on a few of our hucks. One where the huck went to Jeremy on the left side, and Travis, who was handling, ran to the right side and caught the crazy float near the end zone and threw a score. Jeremy

The fun didn't end there...for the first time in a long while (during my frisbee days), Olympia won the party.  What does this mean?  It means we not only shut the house down on Saturday night, but we out-drank Good Times during boat races.  Want to know what a boat race is?  Just ask Austin as he was MVP and key player in winning the race.

Results

A special thanks goes out to Captain Santana for coaching, organizing, and inspiring us to play well.

Lastly, I have been requested to say this: For those Olympia frisbee players working in the fish hatchery industry, it is worth noting that O went 5-2 while Bellingham only went 4-2.  Oh, and we beat Vince, too.  Just something to think about for upcoming tournaments.

Cheers are hard work. (Ian's notes:) Here we are, hard at work on a cheer. Cheers are hard work. Other things: Phil went to extraordinary effort to make it on Sunday, so we appreciate that. During our bye on Saturday, Corey went for a bike race!? Party was OK, but loud, and when we played cups Corey kept throwing the disc down the hill. We ditched the party eventually, and had our own fire at our own campsite. Highlight was Austin carrying a stolen crate of firewood up the hill. Thanks Austin! Oh, and Kathy took 2 hours and half our team to put up her tent. Thanks Kathy!
