We played Fantasy Ultimate all weekend by keeping track of the Good Things we did: catches for scores, throws for scores, D blocks, and good patience. Playing Fantasy was about the best thing we could've done for self-inspiration. I think it drove people to really want to contribute and it encouraged the use of our team as a whole.
Game 1: O vs. MoHomies (8-15). It is now a proven fact that O loses more First Games at a higher rate than Non-First Games (statistically significant, I'm sure). Let's just highlight that Clint's *first* hand block of the weekend occurred on these young pups.
Game 2, O vs. Rama Llama (15-4). Not only did we spank these llamas...66 percent of our points came from Lisa and Hannah alone (with 5 points each)! That's hot!

(Ian's notes:) That's Hannah catching one of many, many scores. One of the men she scored on said it "made him cry a little." |

(Ian's notes:) That's Shannon making a D block between two opponents while Todd watches in the 2nd game Saturday. |
| (Ian's notes:) After game 2, Mike stole someone's spirit prize (a plastic megaphone), took off his cleats, sat down, and started demanding attention. | ![]() |
"Pay Attention To Me" Mike Santana | ![]() |

Clearly, no one paid attention, least of all Mike himself. The skirt must have gone to his head. |
Game 3, O vs. Traffic (10-9). We met Traffic earlier this year at Wenatchee and put them in the backseat. This time we told them to go back and sit in I-5 traffic a little while longer. Topping the Fantasy charts was Jeremy with 5 scores.
Game 4, O vs. Getting Lucky (15-8). Clearly, they needed more luck during this game. We played a gender mis-match to accommodate Lucky's lack of ladies. Our very own lucky charm was Hannah who scored against 3 of their unlucky dudes.

(Ian's notes:) Kathy breaks the mark. Kathy and Pam did a great job handling. I think this was their first time doing mostly horizontal zone handling. In Sunday's first game, we were up 9-7 when the soft cap horn blew. Our opponents scored the next 2 points to tie the game, but we came back to score the next 2 to win. One of the best traits of this year's team was the ability to win close games.
The party involved a long line for dinner, then watching some great ultimate from real athletes. We wandered back to the campsite, then broke up into three camps. Mike and Clint went to watch a movie ( I cannot fathom why). Some went to the store for provisions. And Andrew, Shannon, Jon, Lisa, and I went down to the river to build a bonfire. The provisions crew arrived eventually to a roaring fire, and we had s'mores, hot cocoa, and of course, more beer. Then we left, and the Tacoma team stole our fire, and proceeded to get busted by the fire department, and Hannah got arrested and sent to jail. What a mess. Mike and Clint arrived and didn't believe a word of it, so we all went to sleep, one at a time, in the chair with the foot thing. Oh, and, on a bet from Beth, I yelled at some obnoxious guys to "put a cork in it" (her choice of words) and it worked! |
Game 1, O vs. One Mississippi (11-9). There was literally 1 Mississippi on the field when we were ready to play. Luckily, 6 more of his friends showed up so we could put them away fairly. It must have been Jeremy's inspiring speech which went something like this: "we are better than we think we are, let's get our attitude up to our playing level." We fought fierce for this bad boy. The following is our masochistic D line: Andrew, Clint, Jon, Will, Pam, Beth, Lisa, and Shannon. Seriously, I remember a 20 minute point and I remember a lot of sweet D's.
Game 2, B pool Semi-finals, O vs. Pollo (15-11). First thing I have to say about this game...Cory Cuthbertson is Andrew's Bitch! That's right, our very own sweet Andrew Kolosseus hand-blocked this Nationals-level player not once, but twice!! That put Andrew's Fantasy D blocks to a chart topping 5! Second thing about this game, Todd making a sick D right at the end zone and busting a move for a quick score. This move, among many others, got Hot Rod Todd the Spawnfest Captain's Award.

Game 3, B pool Finals, O vs. MoHomies (9-15). If there's one thing to say about this game it's that our average team age is 31. That's right, we're old and slow compared to these young pups and we just can't hang long enough by Game 3 on Sunday. |

(Ian's notes:) Clint flips a high release to Mike. Todd and I overheard the Mohomie kids (they were learning to crawl when I was learning a forehand) talking about our line: "That number 32, he's surprisingly quick." |
Comments about offense: O's offense depends on "Our Ian", as Santana called him. Everyone is very grateful for his wisdom and tolerance. But mostly, we are grateful that even veterans drop the pull every now and again. Speaking of dropped pulls...the team would also like to recognize and thank our newest Lady Handler, Pam. What I like about Pam's style is that she's reliable and makes great decisions; two essential handler qualities. She just goes out and gets the job done, which is what won Pam the Spawnfest Captain's Award.
| (Ian's notes:) Pam and Todd wore their Captain's Awards proudly well into Sunday evening, much to the delight of the other patrons at the restaurant. Dinner was wicked fun, with lots of remembering all that happened. | ![]() |
(Ian's notes:) This was Will's first tournament with us. Hopefully the first of many.I would just like to mention what Will said at dinner on Sunday. We were all discussing our favorite personal plays and Will said he learned that having the right attitude is key and that you need to put pickup away and have good patience in order to play well together at a tournament. O's team mission was the following:
The objective of the co-ed team is to play at the best of our ability as a unit. The team is dedicated to success through practice, commitment, camaraderie, and good spirit. Individual players will function in a capacity for the betterment of the team through dedication of improving individual skills.
I echo Will's comment and would like to thank everybody who put their personal interests aside for the success of the team as a whole. Congrats to everyone who attended practice and tournaments and thanks to everyone who supported the idea of a competitive traveling team. You all contributed to our fantastic season!!
"Put your entire team in the spotlight. Thanks to them, you're able to experience a level of success that you wouldn't have been able to achieve on your own. Remember that when it's your turn to help one of them out."
