SSUP Board Meeting Minutes

10/11/09

Present: Pam, Jon, Ian, Todd, Andrew

One-Quarter Present (Three-Quarters Slacking): Jen

Slacking: Will, Beth, Andy

Local Tournament (Ian):

Should we reserve RAC fields now for next year? Yes, all in favor!

Should we add 4 more teams and another field? This would allow teams to not play each other twice. Yes, all in favor.

$150 was spent on food $790 on fields

Positive feedback all around about Geofest.

Should we purchase insurance to cover SSUP board for 1 year? This would cover Geofest. Cost is < $1000 We will continue to discuss.

Need a party coordinator for next year.

Ian thanks all who volunteered for Geofest, with a special thanks to Santana for helping with brackets, etc.

Jen left at this time to go to Roller Derby. Before leaving she stated, “I’m coming to pickup next week.”

Team (Jon):

Jon stated in reference to captaining, “I’m definitely going to do it again next year.”

Hanford:

Andrew will fill in for Jon as field captain.

Hanford has been a “fun” tournament in the past. Should we go competitive this year and try to win it? Coed Team Committee consensus was yes, we should go competitive, but will try to recruit new players if there is enough room.

Andrew texted Kathy to have her send an email to team members regarding who plans on playing at Hanford.

Coed Team Committee (Jon, Pam, Ian) decided during SSUP meeting to ask current team members first (including Evergreen kids who played with O this year), then community folks who have been committed to pickup/leagues, then recruit new players (Evergreen kids who haven’t played with O, etc.)

Spring League (All):

Todd wrote a guide for spring league captains We will all review and give specific feedback at next meeting.

Pam and Andrew suggested condensing the guide or making bullet points to encourage new captains to actually read the thing.

Andrew continues to work on matrix comparing leagues, team, etc. He will look at our feedback and make changes.

A discussion came up about how to make Spring League less competitive. One suggestion was to give the prize (t-shirts) to the most improved team or to the most spirited team. Another suggestion was to give each captain a couple of t-shirts and have him/her give them to most improved or spirited players. Another idea was to eliminate the captain-led draft. Instead we could have the Spring League committee do the draft. We will discuss these ideas at the next meeting when Andy is present.

Ian asked should we do clinics again at Spring League? Andrew thinks this may be too much information for beginners. Someone suggested having clinics at Thursday pickup during Spring League.

Fall League (Todd):

Discussion about people playing more games than they said they would be able to play. Nothing we can do about it now. For next year, encourage people to be as honest as possible about number of games they are able to attend, especially the “difference makers.”

Indoor League (Andrew):

Need space. We are low on totem pole at St. Martin’s. We need insurance for St. Martin’s. Also, St. Martin’s teams have priority over us, so they can kick us off at any time.

Pickup (Pam):

Women’s pickup only had 3 people show up. Low coed numbers today as well. Will give Beth feedback about women’s pickup.
