SSUP League/Pickup Philosophy (Andrew)

Andrew shared his very draft league/pickup philosophy.  He will send it out to everyone via e-mail.  People thought this idea was worth exploring.  Please send in your suggestions for filling it in to Andrew by August 14.  Andrew will send the next version out with everyone’s ideas included.  We will discuss this in more detail (45 minutes?) at the next meeting.  Target audience for this is the SSUP board, league committee, and league captains.

Spring Leagues (Andy):

Spring league went well.  Post league feedback included (1) challenges of captaining, (2) wanting soccer instead of baseball fields, (3) and maybe having a bye during Wenatchee instead of Memorial Day.

Fall League (Todd):

Todd will be contacting North Thurston and DiscNW in the next couple of weeks to get it rolling.  Pretty much the same format as last year, but Todd is considering a few tweaks.  Starting time of late September is good for Evergreen attendance.  Ian is helping Todd.  Todd requested one additional person to help if anyone has a good recommendation for a volunteer.

Masters Team (Todd):

We’re exploring the possibility of 33-years-mature plus men going to regionals with a Masters Team.  It’s an Open tourney, so women are allowed, but all the other teams will be stacked with overly competition obnoxious men.  The location of the tourney is still undetermined – this will be the deciding factor on if we can field a team.

Indoor League (Andrew):

We will need a sponsor for insurance this year.  Either DiscNW or the city parks and rec.  Andrew will work on this.

Team (Jon):

Potlatch Bid was Accepted

Sections and Kleinman are optional.  See Jon’s e-mail.

Local Tournament (Ian):

For Geofest, Ian is considering Evergreen, the regional athletic center (lacey), and Rainier Vista (lacey) as field options.  Insurance, field quality and cost are all issues.  Date not set, but end of orientation week in September is good for Evergreen.  Ian sent an e-mail to the list serve requesting feedback on previous geofests.  Dividing teams is a challenge.  Looking at an Evergreen team and two equal Olympia teams.  Andrew voiced importance of having equally matched teams at Geofest – it’s hard to get good level play.  Last year featured remarkably evenly-matched teams.  8-arms bakery may provide food.  Ian will ask for volunteers for jobs as it gets closer.
