South Sound Ultimate Players Board"Promoting Ultimate frisbee in South Sound as a healthy, fun, and spirited community activity." |
Present: Beth, Ian, Todd, Andrew, Andy, Pam
Slacking: Jon, Jen, Will
Spring League: Andy
Registration closes 4/3/09 (but form says 4/5??)
Currently have enough captains for 6 teams, with 2 backup captains
League begins 4/12/09 (Easter Sunday and Beth’s birthday)
Shannon put together a beginner’s guide for the league (Andy passed this out and we all looked at it)
Shannon will be organizing skills clinics for weeks 2, 3, and 4 of league
Nate and Spencer are “League Commissioners”
Ian will be “Rules Czar” unless he is a captain, then Andrew will take this role
There will be a disc design contest again
There was concern among the board that we may not have enough numbers for league
Beth will take fliers to farmers market and Batdorf
Ian will put flier up at the Valley
Andy will put flier up at Yauger Park
Discussed gender ratio issue
Andrew suggested having a men’s league to solve the gender issue
Ian suggested using option #1 of league rules document (5:2 ratio) if there are at least 4 women per team; if less than 4 women per team then play with 6:1 ratio
Todd made a motion to adopt option #1 of league rules document as long as captains are aware that they have the option to negotiate (while keeping both teams’ best interest in mind)
All present board members in favor of adopting option #1
Mullet rule is included in league rules, but will be non-gender specific
Ian suggested following 11th ed. Rules while keeping 10 simple rules (spirit of the game) in mind
Time cap
Voted on 11th ed. rule regarding time cap vs. “common sense” time cap
Ian claims he is the only person who knows this rule, but Andrew says he also knows about it
We assume that Todd also thinks he knows this rule
Present board members voted in support of 11th ed. rule for time cap (if a point is scored and then the whistle blows, this is a “scoring attempt”, so you add 3 points to current score and play up to that number)
Board members approved Andy’s document (titled 1st ed. rules)
Good job Andy!
Winter League: Andrew
A misunderstanding occurred, and we were supposed to have liability insurance for winter league, but didn't
Andrew suggested going through Disc NW or Parks and Rec in order to provide insurance
Ian suggested that we purchase our own insurance
Andrew proposed that extra money from winter league (~$30) goes to “slush fund” for photocopies, etc.
O’Blarney’s after last game of winter league (4/1/09)
Andrew suggested that the same people should captain over and over again so as to avoid having bad captains
Pickup: Pam
Adding Thursday pickup starting 4/9/09 at 6pm
Sunday pickup will end after 4/5/09 and resume after spring league is over
Coed Team: Beth
Practice starts 4/7/09
THAT is back on for 5/16-17
Andrew is going to cancel his trip to Boise so he can go to Wenatchee
