South Sound Ultimate Players Board"Promoting Ultimate frisbee in South Sound as a healthy, fun, and spirited community activity." |
There's a 95% chance of no Logjam tournament this year. We discussed alternatives. The table below includes some of what we discussed, with some additions from research I did this morning.
| Tourney | Notes |
|---|---|
| Flower Bowl in Vancouver | Same weekend as our league playoffs, and there's no co-ed division this year anyway. |
| Oregon Rex 2007 | Oregon Coed Recreational Tournament Where: Eugene, Oregon, When: June 23,24 2007 (same time and place as Solstice) I think we could go to this tournament with the goal of winning it. See http://www.darkstarultimate.org/index.html Note: this is one week before Potlatch. Back to back tournaments might be difficult for some. |
| Spawnfest | August 18-19th |
| Two Geofests | 1 in June, 1 in September? |
| Coed (Mixed) Sectionals | Sometime in September? |
Clint made a team logo with a big O and a small "ly" for our shirts and ordered them. Thanks, Clint!
We have 12 men and 8 women for Wenatchee, although not all of them have signed up on Orange Slices. This will be Austin's last tournament with us, because he's moving away.
Ian requested more team practices, because they rock. Beth and Mike will poll the team to determine if there's a time and place we could have another (optional) team practice, with 4:30 Sunday at LBA one possibility. Ian noted that he would not be able to attend that time, or any time, really. Thanks, Ian!
We all need to visit local fields and help Andrew fill out the spread sheet. Kathy visited LBA on Sunday, and says it's nice. Thanks, Kathy!
Corey has put in a bid for fields at Rainier Vista for September. We can cancel if we need to.
Jeremy and Corey have split up the local high schools, and each will contact half. They'd like to have a local HS 1 day tournament this fall.
The PR committee didn't get much done. Not much feedback on the proposed logo sent out, and few alternatives.
We agreed to postpone the press release (since I didn't get it done anyway) until the end of the league (announce winners, etc.). It will better to do the press release after the web site gets a facelift and reorganization anyway. Beth noted that several people have contacted her after reading about the team on the website.
Beth was the only league committee member present, and she didn't have any information about scheduling Fall League. We'll keep that on our agenda for next week. The Board requests the league committee to submit a proposed schedule.
Spring League Captain's Challenge Every year we do a survey at the end of spring league, and one of the questions is "did you have fun?" Andrew will buy a six pack of beer for the captain whose team members give the highest score on this question. Thanks, Andrew! Kathy has already given herself the highest score, but others are encouraged to try anyway.
We need to get Fall League scheduled so we can rent the stadium. Also, if we have time, still on the agenda for next meeting is a lower priority discussion about who (other than board members) can attend meetings, and how that will work. Meeting will be Monday, May 21st at Ian's house, at 7 p.m.
After the board meeting, we talked about team issues, including practice ideas, vertical stack strategies, and how to call people out of the stack.
