Transition to new pickup dates was successful. Jen is working on a flyer to distribute.
Halfway through the spring league season, the pickup committee will meet to decide on picking the summer pickup schedule. They may do a survey.
Geofest will be in September the weekend after Sectionals. Rainier Vista has 4 fields definitely, but maybe 6 fields.
The stadium is now being used by the high school team for practices. On Friday night, we had a great turnout in the pouring rain, and the fake turf rocks.
10 men and 11 women have signed up for the team so far. However, we're only confident of 9 of those women. Beth and Mike brought some lightsticks to show and discuss the best ways to attach them for the Glow in the Dark frisbee game.
Orange Slices had a database crash, and was down for 3 weeks. No data was lost.
Troy reported on Capitol City Marathon. It's on May 19th and 20th, and we can get an info booth for $150 for one day, or $200 for two days. No one volunteered to pay, so we're going to consider this for next year. We talked about maybe passing out flyers or something. Troy will check out the scene and tell us what it's like.
All of the excitement came with league discussion, with raucous calls for extravagant draft parties. Cooler heads will likely prevail, however. Some folks were not excited about the draft, so perhaps it would be best to keep it small, quiet, and private. Anyhow, Troy presented this information:
Spring League The first week of spring league will not include games. We'll have teams meet on the fields, talk about the game, and perhaps play a little 5 on 5 to get everyone playing. We're not sure if we'll have space for this.
Spring League Draft Spring League draft was proposed to be April 18th at Troy's house, with Andy presiding (nobody from the city will be there). Then, it was raised that this is a practice night for the coed team, so the league committee will look into changing nights. Teams will draft nine players, and the rest will be assigned. Some folks who are not captains want to come watch the draft. The board requested that Andy and the league committee consider this controversial issue and get back to us.
Currently, we have six captains, and many alternates. We won't know if we'll have enough people for 8 teams until the last minute, because that's when most folks sign up.
Fall League The league committee requested board feedback on whether or not to have a competitive Fall League. Competitive was defined as approximately the top 50 players in our area, or "non-beginners." The idea is that we won't have to spend time teaching, we can just play. The board made no official pronouncement, but offered general encouragement. We discussed when it would occur, and agreed that we should decide the schedule as soon as possible, so we can rent the stadium and play on a weeknight, under the lights. The stadium is $80 an hour.
We need to get Fall League scheduled so we can rent the stadium. Also, if we have time, still on the agenda for next meeting is a lower priority discussion about who (other than board members) can attend meetings, and how that will work. Meeting will be Monday, April 23rd at Ian's house.
