SSUP Board Meeting Minutes

3/6/07

Last meeting's minutes amended slightly and posted.

We started with committee reports:

Fields (Andrew):

Andrew handed out a nifty spreadsheet to help us help him gather more specific info about local fields. Check out fields near you and send information to Andrew.

Pickup (Jen):

We have new pickup dates! March 15th, Thursday 6 pm., and Thursdays at least until league is over. Sunday March 18th, we'll move back to 4 p.m. Jen checked with Beth to make sure it was okay to move back the March Madness clinics, and it was. Jen is working on a flyer to distribute.

We all discussed field issues related to pickup, and decided that we need to make a much better effort to replace our divots.

Public Relations (Ian):

We are working on five areas of interest:

  1. Lakefair (or other demonstration game). Researching....
  2. Print Materials. Working on flyers, league flyer first. Jen's found a free business card offer. Cool.
  3. Web Site. I've updated the site with some board info, plus the meeting minutes.
  4. Press Release. Gathering info.
  5. Logo. Sent request to Geoduck list, found professional designer who is ultimate player, in case we can't make anything good ourselves.

Troy recommended having a presence at Capitol City Marathon on May 20th, and volunteered to look into it. I just thought of something. We could sponsor Lisa, and get her a SSUP t-shirt to wear when she wins, and a SSUP support car to follow her....okay, maybe just a tshirt.

Kathy joined the PR committee.

League (Andy):

Voting action: the board decides to let the league subcommittee decide the format for choosing teams for spring league. We talked about having 6 teams with 12 captains, with at least one experienced person in each captain pair. Nobody wanted to pick captains, but the self selecting thing last year resulted in one team not being particularly competitive. So, Corey volunteered to pick captains.

We'll have a disc design contest. Details were provided on a handout. Designs must be complete by May 6th. More info posted on the web eventually.

Youth Outreach: (Jeremy):

The saturday games at Rainier Vista need help. Jeremy can't make them all, and asked for help, but no one volunteered. Bummer. We have a new member on the Youth Outreach committee named Jeff Birbeck. He's from Jeremy's school. I forgot what his role is there.

Co-ed Team (Beth):

6 men and 9 women have signed up for the team so far. Beth is going away for 2 weeks.

Local Tourney (Corey):

Corey will reserve both Evergreen and Rainier Vista for the tournament in September, because there's plenty of time to cancel one.

Next Meeting

On the agenda for next meeting is a discussion about who (other than board members) can attend meetings, and how that will work. Meeting will be Monday, March 26th at Ian's house.
