Olympia Ultimate Frisbee Leagues
|
Great spring league 2010! Congratulations Bluepers! You played great and deserve to be spring league champions. Congrats to Corey & Kathy for being the first two people to win the Olympia ultimate frisbee grand slam by winning four consecutive titles in the following order: Geofest, fall league, winter league, and the spring league. Let the bragging begin!
Thank you very much to the spring league captains (Beth, Clint, Corey, Hannah, Pam, and Ron). The six of you created a great vibe for the league, and everyone in the league appreciated it very much. Thank you to Jeff Johnson and the City of Olympia Parks and Recreation for supporting us in our disc chasing desires. But most of all, thank you Andy & Troy, not only for hosting a great barbeque, but more importantly, for believing that Olympia could develop a thriving frisbee community.
Andy & Troy started the first Olympia ultimate frisbee league eight years ago with just 40 people. For those who were not around then, during this time there was no guarantee that we would have enough for 7s at pick-up, and on some days there was a telephone tree (pre-texting days) to encourage people to come out. At that time, we only played March through October and we only went to tournaments occasionally, if we could find enough women to attend. In just eight short years we now have a 90-person spring league, a fall league under the lights, an in-door winter league, a traveling team that attends at least six tournaments a year, and ladies pick-up. All these things are directly as a result of that first league Andy & Troy started. Thanks guys!

Create a design to be put on the official 2010 league disc (look around and see where previous years' artists are today- they are all totally famous!) Your design could be chosen. Your design must be completed and brought on the second Sunday of the league, April 25, to be voted on (along with the other entries) by league participants.

For more information about the sport of ultimate frisbee, see this site: What is Ultimate?.
The league will begin Sunday, April 18th, and run for nine weeks. We will play every Sunday afternoon at 5:30 p.m.
Bring water, and the right color shirt for your team (on the first day, bring a light colored shirt and a dark colored shirt). It is a very good idea for both performance and safety to wear cleated shoes (such as those for soccer or football).

On the map below, the park entrance is at the "A" marker, on Morse-Merryman Rd. It's across the street and a bit east of McKenny Elementary School.
