Olympia Ultimate Frisbee Leagues![]() Fall League |
We will play by the Official UPA 11th Edition Rules, although we won't be checking times with stopwatches. It is up to the teams to keep the game moving. Stalling with a lead may be clever, but it is considered poor spirit.
Games will start at 8 p.m., or, if the fields are still in use then, 5 minutes after the fields become available. Both games will start at the same time, and will be played to 19, or 1.5 hours from starting time. At the 1.5 hour mark, we'll signal a hard cap. Hard cap, as defined by the 11th edition:
"A hard cap is the ending of the game once a predetermined time of game has elapsed and after the current scoring attempt is completed. If the score is tied, the teams play until one additional goal is scored."
"A scoring attempt begins when the previous goal is scored and ends when a subsequent goal is scored." The "scoring attempt" definition is a bit counter-intuitive, so read it carefully.
Gender Balance: Offense can call either 5/2 or 6/1 on a point-by-point basis. A team can voluntarily increase their female ratio above the offense-called balance if they so wish. Teams may not "pick up" players of either gender.
Halftime: Captain discretion. Recommend mirror halves & 3 minute break after 45 minutes.
Timeouts: Two 45 second time outs per game, and none in the last 5 minutes. Timeouts called in the last 5 minutes are turnovers.
Forfeits: Each team must have at least 6 non-injured players present (at least one of which must be a female). If a team does not have this many players, 1 point will be given to the opponent at the game start and every 3 minutes up to 15 minutes (at which point it would be a 6-0 forfeit. Note that a team of 6 players can play 6 vs. 7 or 5 vs. 7 (allowing for a periodic rest). Here are a couple of possible scenarios in the (hopefully unlikely) event that one team has a low turnout:
This league is designed for players with a general knowledge of the game. Players should have experience throwing, marking, and basic offensive and defensive strategies. If you aren't sure if you should sign up, contact us to ask. This is a coed league. We will probably play 5:2, but we'd prefer to play 4:3 if enough women register.
A lot of time and energy are spent during spring league teaching new players rules and basic strategies. This is fine, but takes a lot of energy from the experienced players doing the teaching. For the fall season, we're hoping to create a competitive environment where we can focus more on playing, and less on teaching. We'd like to maintain spring league as a good place to learn the game.
