Freelance writer available for technical and grant writing projects.

Projects

Here are a few of the projects I've worked on recently.

Education

Grant Writing Essentials

During the summer of 2011 I took the Grant Writing Essentials class at The Evergreen State College. In this class I learned a basic grasp of what nonprofit programs need in order to get funding and how to describe it. The writing tasks were well supported by my prior experience, and I found many similarities between technical writing for software development and grant proposal writing for nonprofit development.

I chose South Sound Reading Foundation (SSRF) to write a grant proposal for. Children's literacy was new to me so I did considerable research to understand the context for the proposal. I found several new studies that supported the benefits and effectiveness of SSRF's mission and approach. I also spent a couple mornings with SSRF distributing books to local children.

Web Publishing

During the spring of 2011 I worked with a local businessman to design a low-cost web site to market a renovation and hauling company. In December of 2010 I worked with a local athlete to design a very low-cost, temporary site to help find a triathlon coach.

Since 2007 I have served on the board of a local sports association, South Sound Ultimate Players. Part of my involvement has included designing and maintaining their web site.
